OVERCOMING THE STRUGGLES OF MOTHERHOOD (Chapter 1)
Motherhood
Written by Lawrenta Onipede

Chatting with a couple of Mums with very young kids over the weekend, reminded me of the struggles I had as a young mum. I had my kids in quick successions which doubled the amount of little mouths that needed to be fed, diapers to be changed, clothes to be washed, little hands and mouths to be wiped and spills to be cleaned.
I found the work load very stressful and was often weak and fatigued. It was a struggle getting through the daily chores. That was when I learnt to appropriate Philippians 4:13 into my daily schedule. I would go about my chores confessing
I, LAWRENTA OMONO ONIPEDE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME, ENABLES ME AND ENERGIZES ME
And soon enough I started to feel stronger and had enough energy to attend to my chores and clean up after my boys.
Another scripture I found very helpful was Colossians 3:23-24;
23: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24: Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Meditating on this verses in Colossians helped me overcome the resentment and frustration I felt from labouring under the load of babies and house keeping. Taking care of small children can be so demanding that you literally feel yourself disappearing, fading off right into Mummy-Oblivion.
From then on I chose to see this as a ministry unto the Lord. I started doing everything as unto the Lord, cooking, cleaning, changing diapers, everything as unto the Lord. True to his promise the Lord rewarded me with strength and grace to stand in such a high place.
If you are struggling today as l was several years ago then you need to seek help from the one who can strengthen you and equip you for such a high calling as motherhood.
Apply his word, memorize and confess them and he will turn your weaknesses to strength just like he did for me.
You are loved, always!
